I picked up Margot Adler’s book because The Interwebs recommends it as the most comprehensive (if fairly outdated) guide to the modern neo-pagan movement in the USA (and UK/Australia to a degree). WHATEVER, DAWKINSįor 10/10 ideas on trolling Dawkins’ twitter until he loses his tiny sexist and racist mind read this This has the wonderful benefit of making me incredibly angry both in spiritual spaces and skeptical spaces: the former has a serious problem with rejecting empiricism and promoting dangerous health lies, and the latter has a nasty habit of spouting nu-atheist dogma that spirituality is inherently irrational, irrationality is inherently wrong, and therefore anyone who chooses to have faith in anything is a cretin. Skeptics believe that things need to be empirically proven before empirical claims can be made about them, and that false claims need to be tackled.* Panentheism is the belief that the world is inherently divine (like pantheism) but that the source of the divine comes from elsewhere (unlike pantheism).
What actually are my religious beliefs? Well, since you insist on asking, I’d probably describe myself as a skeptic panentheist. Who could dislike a spirituality based on feminism, environmentalism, and folk history… plus a smattering of Aleister Crowley woo woo and appropriated indigenous traditions? #yay
