Custer is portrayed as a daring, but rational commander.
It was good to see a portrayal of Custer as something other than a fool. Rather than being flamboyant Custer was a serious soldier whose leadership at Gettysburg on a couple of occasions, saved the day. Custer served for a time as an officer in the Michigan 5th Cavalry before taking charge of the regiment and the "Michigan Brigade." The brigade was active in most every cavalry encounter in the war in Virginia and present at Appomattox.Ī couple of reviewers left these remarks:īefore reading this I had the impression that Custer in real life was as portrayed by Errol Flynn. This is the story of his command in the Civil War. Custer - a name that will forever live in infamy in American History.
